Background

The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) in cooperation with the Wetlands and Aquatic Ecosystem Sub Committee (WAESC) are currently furthering the development of the Australian Wetland Inventory (AWI).

Most jurisdictions have previously compiled wetland maps and inventories, however there are varying levels of wetland characterisation (e.g. linework and attribution) and condition and trends.

The proposed Australian Wetland Inventory aims to build on the work already completed by jurisdictions and consolidate this to meet the agreed objectives of a National Wetlands Inventory.

further the development of the AWI by providing a knowledgebase and repository of data and information in a single location
identify existing data sets and their custodians which may be relevant to the development of the AWI
assist in providing an overview of the current status of aquatic ecosystem data and data management
assist in identifying and resolving data and metadata issues
